a-queer-seminarian:

i love experiencing how my classmates work to avoid misgendering me. for instance, today one classmate greeted the rest of our small group:
“All right ladies and gentlemen — and Avery”

another time a classmate went:
“Pardon me, ma’am — uh, sir, uh….esteemed one”

and, my absolute fave:
“Hey ladies! — and gentleThem”

i love these moments both because they’re humorous and because they show how hard these folks are trying! it’s not about getting it right every time at first, but consistently correcting yourself!

Hey there. Here’s a summary, of all
the things which have been happening since January last year, to lead us down
to this:

1)      January: We start with a broken car, which drove over and flattened
literally all of his savings and more besides from the entire previous year in
obtaining a replacement.

2)      Nik’s migraines (hemiplegic, as in ‘this is not actually a stroke,
it just happens to look and feel exactly like a stroke) went from ‘maybe
once a month, with a warning’ to ‘minimum once a week’. That’s gotten
better only since he moved out of his apartment and away from roommates who
were smoking weed a lot.

3)      Did you know that if you occasionally have migraines, and you have
to live with people who smoke weed all the time, and you yourself don’t smoke
weed, that your migraines will get worse? Because it’s a thing that makes the
blood vessels in your brain expand – most migraine meds make them contract,
that’s why you get them with caffeine in them. Passive smoking, not active.

·
Oh, and followed by the migraine
afterparty (which is like what happens after you’re sick and you’re still
feeling like shit) – that’s called a postdrome, btw.

·
For this whole year, he’s missed an
(this is a low-estimation) average of 1.5 nights of work per week, due to
migraines. That’s 73.5 nights, or nearly fifteen work weeks.

à       As of the pay period before this one, he’s gone two pay periods
since January of last year, without needing to take a
night off work due to migraines. This pay period he’s missed three days, the
first two due to flu induced migraines, and the third due to stress, caused by
what’s happening right now.

à       Fortunately, FMLA exists; that means he can’t be fired for taking nights
off for migraines, at a maximum of 2 nights per week.

à       Except he’s not paid for those nights off.

4)      The first (that’s right, first) surprise student loan bill appears,
which should have been covered under the GI Bill but wasn’t because someone
decided to file him as ‘spouse’ (which he wasn’t).

·
He had to pay this back at a rate of
$92/pay

·
It ate up his entire tax return

5)      The second surprise student loan automatically deducted from his
bank account the entirety of that fortnight’s pay, on the night he got paid. The company said they did this because it
was less than $500 and therefore they could. This was done without prior
authorisation. This immediately led to:

6)      Nik called his car insurance company to arrange a late payment (late as
in a couple of days after when it’s due, but within the company’s payment grace
period) because his money had essentially been stolen per above. The insurance
company agreed to accept money after his next pay, a couple of days after his
usual payment date.

·
Nik was pulled over by a cop and
charged with not having insurance on his car, during those few days.

·
The judge who heard this case,
despite being presented with proof provided by the insurance company of the
phonecall having taken place, and with proof of current insurance fully paid,
gave Nik a several hundred dollar fine for ‘failing to maintain financial
responsibility’.

7)      Someone started deliberately laying nails in Nik’s apartment parking
space.
He lost a tyre to this, so started checking his parking space before leaving,
and before parking there when he gets back, and has found a number of nails and
screws, all sticking upwards, all placed where tyres go.

·
By ‘lost a tyre’ I
mean ‘that’s a few hundred dollars for a pair of replacement tyres’, which
was infuriating because a few weeks later:

8)      Another tyre blew on the freeway, which wrecked car number 2. That was
another >$500 for interim transport, plus the cost of car number 3 (another
several hundred dollars), which

·
Turned out to have a vastly faulty
transmission and shouldn’t have been able to be sold.

·
This car is not going to last.

·
He’s going to spend all this year
saving up to replace it.

9)      His aforementioned roommates decided the coolest thing in the world to
do while he was moving out and waiting for the movers to show up, was to
literally throw his shit out the apartment. As in, lift possessions overhead
and smash them out the doors, in an effort to cause property damage.

·
Some things of his which shouldn’t be
missing at this point are missing. They could have been damaged, destroyed, or even
taken in the mess that was moving out.

·
(Like his Gameboy, which he’s been
considering selling.)

10)  The one thing he wanted to do last year was go to his BFF’s wedding. He
had a savings plan for it. He couldn’t go; every few weeks something happened
and he was back at square one.

11)  And now? He’s been turned down for the apartment he was led to
understand was a shoo-in, because another applicant appeared at the last second
with better credit

·
who wouldn’t have gotten the
apartment if its occupants hadn’t extended the lease a couple of weeks

·
He was meant to be in there on the
fifth. The budget was all set for movein on the fifth, he was on track.

·
This has also meant that he had to
pay extra for storage fees.

12)  The next apartment within budget is $220 more per month. No that’s not a
typo. He’s looking at studios and single bedrooms and the next available of
either is $809. That’s half what he makes in a month. It’s awful, but it’s
better than what he has at the moment, which is:

·
A hotel, where he’s paying $65/night.
That’s 455/week before the card surcharge.

·
He’s not interested in having
roommates because of the stunts the last pair pulled, and frankly I don’t blame
him

13)  Oh, and it turns out Sprint has been overcharging him on his phone bill by around $20/month.

14) Oh and his insurance won’t cover his haemotologist appointments. Because, long story short, there was a non-zero chance of leukaemia, according to a recent blood test. Which means two appointments minimum with the haemo; one to test and the other to discuss results. So that’s at least $150 each. Actually his insurance won’t cover any of his appointments this year until he reaches his deductible.

How you can help?

Reblog this. Donate, if you can. Post
it on your facebook feeds if you want. Follow my patreon ( https://www.patreon.com/amemait ) because
where do you think I’ll be putting the money? That’s right, I’m giving all but
taxes to him.

Just help my Nikolai start this year
far better than he started last year.

(My apologies if the formatting of this post turns out badly; I did my best, but you know tumblr.)

On top of all this?

I’ve been diagnosed with polycythemia, which is the condition of having too many red blood cells. This is a side effect of my HRT, and it’s possible I may have to STOP my HRT. This also means more visits to the oncologist, and until I meet my deductible (1100 to go) that’s 150-220 per visit.

Right now, I just need to get a home, because right now, I’m throwing my money into a black hole with this hotel room.

I can’t offer much in return aside my thanks, unless you want some writing? I am more than willing to write for you!

Thank you again, for anything- be it donations or signal boosts. It’s GREATLY appreciated.

Also still signal-boosting!

Just like Slughorn, Albus Dumbledore collects people. Only, instead of focusing on those with influence, he looks to the outcasts.

The expelled half-giant.
The young werewolf.
The repentant Death Eater.

He protects them and gives them a second chance. All he asks in return is their loyalty.

And, if on occasion he requests that they undertake a certain task, invoking their debt of gratitude – well, that is no more than he is owed.

He once thought to add a certain disowned Black to his collection, but quickly realised his mistake.

Sirius is not an outcast, but a rebel. He knowingly chose his path, and chooses what price he is willing to pay for it. He refuses to be used.

So Albus Dumbledore abandons him.

Who gave you the RIGHT?

Dumbledore knows Sirius’s loyalty lies with Harry instead of him, and he has no use for someone who is not willing to follow his orders without question.

Ooooohoo if there’s ever a post that fits my aesthetic…

okay but then where does Harry himself fit into this collection? Is he an outcast because he is “the Boy Who Lived”?

Nooonono, my friend, that’s what makes this post so beautiful. Because it fits the meta I’ve been trying to get people to accept for years.

Harry was an outcast due to a childhood filled with abuse and neglect.

Vernon made him an outcast by dismissing his claims of magic, berating him, locking him in a CLOSET and putting bars on his window, and let’s face it, even though her editor made her cut it out, Jo intended for there to be physical abuse.

Petunia made him an outcast by enabling and contributing to this abuse, as well as making Harry do dozens of chores while doting on Dudley.

Dudley made him an outcast by bullying him and threatening any students at school who wanted to be his friends.

And the rest of the wizarding world made him an outcast when they bullied him for being an outsider.

Harry James Potter became an outcast the moment he was placed with The Dursleys.

And who put him there in the first place?

The life and lies of Albus Dumbledore

I DONT LIKE IT BUT I LIKE IT
