ur welcome

I’m autistic and ace. There are a lot of us out there. Shut the fuck up.

im autistic and ace, a lot of aces are autistic, shut up

im autistic and aro this post is #debunked

Ace and autistic here, all autistic characters are ace now,

yeah, yall aren’t getting it. im NOT saying ace/aro autistic people dont exist. i know ace autistic ppl. i’d probably be considered to be on the ace spectrum. the problem with headcanoning autistic characters as ace is that in a LOT of cases, its desexualizing and infantilizing autistic people.

i have no problem with your identities. i have a problem with autistic people/characters being infantilized. thanks tho

@autistictaramaclay @sunflowerorion

yeah i mean i get it and itd be a problem if allistics headcanoned all autistics as ace but like. i can literally only relate to autistic people and i want a character like me

my orientation isnt infantilizing btw srry sweaty

what the fuck?? saying someone is ace isn’t ‘infantilizing’ them. ace people aren’t children, and not experiencing sexual attraction doesn’t make someone inherently more childish

also as everyone else said: there’s a difference between allistics doing this and autistic ace people wanting representation

“I have autistic ace friends so I can speak over you and say whatever I want. Also I might possibly technically be somewhere in scene as even though I don’t identify with it so I have more authority than you.”

Everyone go home. The internet is over.

Okay, you know what? I just reblogged this but I wanna get geeky over it. ‘Cause this is some high-class humor right here, and if you don’t get that you need to be educated so here I am about to do the thing you’re not supposed to do and explain the joke, because I’m just really impressed by this joke’s construction, okay?

So back in Paris in the 1920s, the surrealist movement in art was just starting to take off. The surrealist movement was born from the dadaist movement, which was a response to strict societal ideas of what was “art” and what wasn’t. The dadaists made a lot of works to try and challenge society’s ideas of what art even was in the first place, and this continued on into the more sophisticated abstract works of surrealism.

One such artist, Rene Magritte (also known for his paintings of people with invisible heads, or with fruit for heads), painted a work called “The Treachery of Images,” depicting a pipe, and underneath the words (in french) “This is Not a Pipe.” The words were meant to refer to the fact that the painted pipe was literally not a real physical pipe that a viewer could smoke out of, it was just a painting of a pipe.

The painting was extremely meta, and really challenged the habit of allowing oneself to get so immersed in a work of art that one forgets it is a created representation of life, and not actual life. Understanding that alone takes a good deal of abstract thinking ability. And really appreciating and enjoying it requires a certain amount of one’s own frustration with society’s habit of trying to put limits on the definition of art; and being unable to think outside the box and really see something from all possible perspectives, including the perspective of being completely outside the thing.

Now what’s even more fascinating to me is that modern art movements (and I don’t mean “modern art,” I mean actual contemporary art movements that are being led by our peers) are kinda doing the same thing the dadaist movement was doing, but in reaction to the art that came out of the dadaist movement. Things have circled back around again, and abstract surrealist art is now what society has decided “art” is. And our generation doesn’t accept that. Comics, video games, TV shows and movies, graffiti art, web series, even flash mobs, all of these are our generation’s way of saying, “no, society, you don’t get to define art as strictly as ‘if it doesn’t make sense to me it must be brilliant.’ Art can be simple to understand, art can be accessible to all people, art can make you beg to find out what happens next!” And that’s really interesting to me.

Flash forwards to 2006, when rapper Gucci Mane writes a song called “Pillz” in which the phrase “bitch I might be” was coined and used several times. In the song, it’s used as a sarcastic, somewhat indignant but not wholly angry way to say “it’s none of your business,” in response to a beautiful woman in a club accusing the rapper of being high. The phrase became a meme in 2013, following Gucci Mane’s indictment for assaulting a soldier, when a redditor photoshopped a screencap of news coverage of the trial to reference the song. The photoshopped image changed the previous on-screen text to read “Rapper Gucci Mane responds with ‘bitch I might be’ when asked if guilty”. Again, the usage of the phrase is a sarcastic and indignant “none of your business.” The phrase then quickly gained popularity and was added to numerous other photoshopped images.

Now, memes are really cool as a concept anyways, when you think about them hard enough (I mean, the speed at which an entire world full of young people are able to latch onto something as simple as a phrase that they all mutually find funny, and within a matter of days explore every possible usage and implication of that phrase, including how it might relate to other complex systems of knowledge and understanding such as the rich character and plot developments of stories that generate fandoms), but lets put that aside for now and talk about sarcasm, instead.

Because sarcasm is a very sophisticated, complex, and subtle form of wit. It’s a difficult thing to be able to understand, through tone of voice alone, that what someone says, and what they mean, are two different things. And to be able to discern the actual meaning when the words were not said. As wikipedia says, “different parts of the brain must work together to understand sarcasm.“ It’s even harder when those words are typed and not spoken audibly, as the reader must imagine the tone in the first place. That’s a lot of brain work involved in even understanding the true meaning behind that simple little phrase.

And sarcasm is popular right now. More than popular, it’s a hallmark of our generation. People have been writing lengthy articles and psychological, sociological, and anthropological studies and musings on why we’re so sarcastic. As this article suggests, it’s because we’re so angry. We’re a generation that was promised a lot and the world didn’t deliver. We’re disenchanted, and jaded, and mad. And we vent that through sarcastic humor. We laugh at things older generations don’t think are funny. We have come to expect so much disappointment, that we no longer afford “serious” things the respect we’re told they deserve. Because we no longer believe they deserve it. As the article states, “We are a generation that believes nothing is sacred. And if nothing is sacred everything becomes profane.”

One could even go so far as to make the argument that the popularity of the statement on the above image is due partially to the attitude amongst today’s youth (especially on tumblr) that one’s own life and choices are one’s own, and not the business of anybody else. This attitude can be seen in everything as simple as the “be yourself” and “follow your dreams” statements many of us were raised on, to the more serious issues we deal with today of discrimination against the LGBTGA+ community, fat shaming, slut shaming, prejudice against muslim people, etc., to political issues like free speech and government invasion of privacy, and even into more subtle ideas present in social media of privacy settings, controlling who gets to see what posts, block and ignore features, and even the philosophy of “nobody can tell you what to post in your own space. If somebody doesn’t like it, they can unfollow.”

None of this would be happening consciously, of course, but we can’t help but be influenced by the world around us. And a phrase whose meaning is essentially “it’s none of your business” is very likely to resonate strongly with a group of people whose fundamental philosophies of polite interpersonal conduct revolve roughly around the same concept.

Taking all this into consideration, this joke is taking a lot of pre-knowledge and putting it all together to kind of say, in a funny way, “stop acting like you have it all figured out, because you don’t. And some things are just not for you to figure out anyway.”

So to sum up, to understand the above image, you must:

  1. have a descent grasp on art history to recognize the original painting.
  2. have good abstract and/or creative thinking skills to understand and appreciate the original painting.
  3. have a good grasp on modern pop culture, internet culture, and current slang and memes (basically, be an active participant in the wider world).
  4. have the complex emotional and interpersonal understanding necessary to understand the subtleties of sarcasm.
  5. understand enough of what’s going on in the world around you that you are disenchanted enough to appreciate sarcastic humor.
  6. participate in our generation’s general philosophy of life and how to interact with other human beings in the world at large.

So basically, if you laughed, you’re smart. :3

Tsitsi Masiyiwa. A true hero.

I was about to say wtf is her NAME! I wish they’d stopped doing that and also what country of Origin!

ALSO her husband’s business went under when they were married, they were completely penniless together, and then they built that business up and he made millions TOGETHER. She didn’t just marry some millionaire. Y’all have no trouble talking about Melinda Gates (using her name, not saying she’s just some woman who married a millionaire) but can’t do it with Tisitsi?

Tsitsi has a doctorate. She sits on the boards of PATH and END Fund, and is a founding member of the African Philanthropy Forum. She’s pretty incredible.

So then she isn’t *just* “wife of a millionaire” but actually Doctor Tsitsi Masiyiwa. It is another layer of disrespect by media when non-white women – and ESPECIALLY black women – are denied the recognition of their titles/degrees

candidlyautistic:

This is a bit too long for the ask box, and I really wanted to have spaces so it’s more accessible to people with reading difficulties, because I’m still so angry about it. The worst ableism and abuse I’ve ever received because of me being autistic was from the staff at a Christian Youth Camp and my Youth Leaders.

You know how loud school cafeterias can get? Well, picture one of those, closed off so in its own building, with aluminum walls and roof, corrugated and reinforced with concrete cinderblocks. With absolutely no sound absorbing pads on the wall. That was the cafeteria at the Youth Camp I went to two summers.

The camp was six days long, with three meals a day. You weren’t allowed to be anywhere but the cafeteria during meals. I didn’t eat hardly anything the entire week because I would get a headache and had to go throw up in the bathroom if I went in there because of how loud it was. There were so many echoes and I couldn’t think and it was overwhelming and even if I managed to be in there I was too nauseous to eat.

It was sensory overload. I couldn’t think if I was in there. I couldn’t breathe. I could barely see because my vision would get blurry from all the noise.

I sat on the steps outside during meals because we weren’t allowed to be in our cabins during that time. I had counselors get mad at me for not being inside, but I wouldn’t go in because I’d get sick.

Each “tribe” had to help clear dishes and serve drinks twice, and I ended up getting so sick every time I had to do it that I nearly passed out in the restroom. My youth pastor got so angry when he found out I hadn’t eaten, and he threatened to pick me up and carry me in there to make me eat. I told him that if he touched me (I have severe haphephobia and a hypersensitive sense of touch) I would scream.

He tried to pick me up. I screamed.

I was sent to the camp leaders and disciplined for screaming when nothing was wrong.

The next day, a couple of the girls from my church tried to bring me a burger so I could eat outside and not get sick from the noise, and they got yelled at for trying to take food outside. It was three days into the week. I’d had nothing to eat but a few snacks I brought with me to camp, barely enough to keep me from passing out. Camp counselors asked why I wasn’t eating inside. I said it was too loud and I got sick being in there. They tried to pull me to my feet and make me go inside.

When they wouldn’t listen when I said I hate being touched, I told them that if they didn’t stop touching me, I would scream. They didn’t stop, so I screamed.

I got in trouble again and was told I had to be in the cafeteria during mealtimes and they were going to make my youth pastor keep an eye on me so I didn’t sneak out.

I did what they told me, and I ended up bawling and trying not to have a meltdown because it was too loud and it physically hurt. I got in trouble for not eating. I said I couldn’t eat because the noise made me nauseous. They told me I was lying and I was just being shy.

They tried to pray for Jesus to heal my anxiety, and I told them I was going outside whether they liked it or not because I couldn’t think and I was in pain.

I got in more trouble and was basically on house arrest for the rest of the camp.

That was year one. Year two was basically the same.

The White Death Note thing on netflix has me so worried

I mean. You realize you’re literally making a movie about a white boy “cleansing” american prisons right. You realize what the american prison system is right. You do realize your country already has enough problems with “lonely” white boys who think they can get away with murder without punishment for being white right.

You can’t grab a story like that and completely change the context without it turning into a huge fucking mess

Its downright ugly. There are nuances within the story that simply CANNOT and SHOULD NOT be whitewashed. Then to have a white boy play judge, jury and executioner at his own whim is a dangerous image to see glorified, no matter how the story ends.

To all those rolling their eyes or throwing up their hands about people blowing things out of proportion, educate yourselves. Making an westernised, whitewashed version of Death Note doesn’t happen in some magical utopia, its not without reason that people are troubled. Some random white boy with the power to thin out the American prison population is disgusting.

There are no tropes being cleverly subverted here. This is saying 1) we think Japanese people are such non-entitites we’re going to erase them from their own narratives 2) Set it in america because to hell with Japan and its culture relevance to the overall story 3) Non-white characters arent relatable, everyone can relate to a “lone-wolf” white boy who kill indiscriminately 4) Everyone hates prisoners, we’ll just have random white dude excute who he see fit 5) fuck the moral ramifications of a white boy lording power over a American slave institution consisting mainly black/brown people who he can kill at will

Nothing happens in a vacuum. Creators don’t get to babble about staying close to source material while whitewashing. Ignoring how significant the origin culture is in the source material. Then ploping in into another country so rooted in racism without even looking at the how that impacts the story. Nope, its irresponsible. Look if i wanted to see white boys get away with murder, I’d just watch the news.

Personally i hope this dies a death like Iron Fist.

i love this so much i dont know where to start

– the comedy itself

– the commentary on ‘what is art’

– further on what is art: the viewers are interpreting this as art, but the intention of the “artist” was not actually art, so is it art or not? who gets to decide, the viewers or the creator?

– the act of placing the glasses and watching the response (and the response itself being that the viewers treated the glasses as art) as performance art

like is this a critique of postmodernism? does the critique betray itself since (one could argue) the viewers interpreting the glasses as art makes them art? or is that so ridiculous that it doesn’t matter? i could go on

The intention of the “artist” was not actually art, but… their intention was to create a specific image for public display in order to evoke a reaction from an audience, and then to create an image of that in order to evoke a different reaction from a second audience.

I think they accidentally arted.  Twice.

I hate everything about this post

This stuff is why my art appreciation class was so deliciously easy. I just bullshitted my way through all the assignments with random drivel about “what is really art” and got an A.

This thread is literally my entire art appreciation class’ discussion on Dada.

GOD BLESS I’M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO KNOWS THEY’RE SHITTY

For anyone who doesnt know: this is evenmoreuserboxes

Well perhaps if aces would stop harassing them and trying to start discourse on their blog and respect their boundaries, maybe, just maybe, they might not have to fucking state this.

They’ve stated they’ve been harassed by members of the ace community on multiple occasions before, heck they’ve even had aces themselves back them up and justifying their right to not accept asks dealing with the ace community.

When will you self centred fucks stop harassing people and leave them alone.

its. not harassment to ask people to respect your identity??

Why are so many userbox blogs turning out to be awful people, first there’s unrelatableuserboxes being an aphobe then there’s terfsafeuserboxes saying “you can’t be racist against whites” and now this!

Dude no being ‘racist’ against whites…. isn’t an actual thing. Being prejudice against a specific white nationality like a Frenchman hating a German would be xenophobia. There’s no such thing as ‘reverse racism’ -mod karkles

Okay, then what do you call those 4 black teenagers who tortured that white kid on the sole basis of being white? That’s not racism?

?????? I’m confused when did this happen? -mod karkles

you’re correct in saying that white people do not experience systematic racism for being white and @rising-star-steven Is regurgitating literal alt-right talking points.

#Anti-sjw/alt-right/neo-nazi
#ableism

B***h I know you’re not talking about me.
And if you want proof of “systematic racism” look no further than South Africa.

And even if whites don’t go through “systematic racism” or whatever the f***, you can still be racist to them. And also, I like how you essentially just ignore my question and be all like “thE ALT-RIGHT SAID THE SAME THING!!!!!111!”

take this somewhere else the post has nothing to do with it @rising-star-steven @kin-against-aphobes

I can’t believe they’re still on about this…Sorry Azzy you were dragged into their bullshit~🐱

Nah your fine dude. You already cleared that up and you arent the one who brought that up here. Its his (sorry if these are the wrong pronouns, i saw “male” in the blog desc but no pronouns listed) right not to like your blog but their was no reason to bring it up on this like

At all

is @rising-star-steven ignoring the horrible conditions poc were under during the apartheid and maybe any bad feelings towards them is a result of that…?

White folks in South Africa were literally out there raping women and children and burning black men alive and dragging them out of their houses to castrate them in the street but they wanna be mad about black people treating them like shit lol

Regardless of how shitty those black people are being to people who literally colonized them, the atrocities whites committed against South Africans through the apartheid is beyond what they are currently getting back. And even so. You can’t go into a country, kill a bunch of people, historically oppress them, brutalize them, forcibly assimilate them, and then be mad when they start killin you back. Just saying.

candidlyautistic:

I have to take the Harvard racial Implicit Attitudes Test for psychology. This test assess the level of inherent bias you have for or against one group or another.

The way it does this is by having you press one button to sort black people and negative words, and another that sort white people and positive words. Then you have to do it the other way around. You press one key for white people and negative words, and another key for black people and positive words.

Based on how many you get right and wrong it gives you a score ranging from bias towards white people, to neutral, to bias towards black people. It is a pretty straight forward thing, right?

What I find interesting is that the particular test that I took (from Harvard, where the test was created), indicated that I did not get any wrong answers. I sorted exactly to the criteria as instructed with no mistakes. When black people and negative were associated and white people and positive were associated, I organized correctly. When black people and positive were associated and white people and negative were associated, I organized correctly.

You would think this means that I am neutral, right? You would be wrong. The way that the test is standardized means that sorting them correctly without making mistakes results in the strongest possible preference for black people.

Think about that for a moment. This test is the go-to when where racial bias is concerned. But there is so much bias in our culture against black people, and that bias is so expected, that treating black and white people equally is considered showing a strong preference for black people.

That is beyond fucked up.
