Anti-ace/aro shit on this site, an actual problem
Somehow people keep claiming there is no problem with anyone hating aces and aros on this site and particularly in what they call “ace discourse” (but what could often be more accurately renamed to “plain shitting on aces and aros”). So I’ve made another list of some of the shit that’s gone down, except this time with links because apparently that’s the only way to not get dismissed out of hand.
I’ve talked a lot about racism in this mess but I’ve stuck to mostly other stuff this time, because I don’t have the energy to drag up certain shit again (or in other cases don’t want to bring in posts ppl apologized for, or dig through my blog for a long time, or or. Maybe I will add some more shit later. [Though looking over it one more time, there’s actually some considerable stuff here already.])
So, crap the anti-ace/aro crowd on this site has pulled includes but sadly is not at all limited to:
Comparing aces and aros to Trump (and pretending this is funny)
Comparing aces to Ronald Reagan (and pretending this is funny)
Comparing aces to a literal slave owner
Making fun of aces not being accepted by their parents and of aces finding this upsetting (making it into a crytyping “joke”)
Making aces feel shitty/shaming them for telling their parents they’re ace because it’s supposedly “unnecessary”
Saying if we tell family about being ace, it’s no wonder if they send us to therapy
Doing their best to sexualize the orientations of aces, in so many cases. The link before these two is also connected to that. They treat our orientations like (graphic) details about “our sex lives”, frequently acting like if we want to talk about them ever we’re gross/creepy
This one is also “nice” re sexualizing aces (one of many examples of ppl also engaging in sex-shaming while they’re at it, saying only one’s partner should know anything about one’s “relationships with sex”. Except this person goes kinda even further)
More sexualization, when I say this freaks me out as a WoC, I’m told this white person gives no fucks and wants me to be miserable
Another person who says the identities of aces but also of aros need to stay between them and their Partners because they’re “TMI” and inherently sex-shaming somehow
Oh yeah did I mention, much the same with sexualizing aros and ppl frequently link our identities to misogyny and to using people while they’re at it
Making light and fun of ace WoC asking to not be sexualized because don’t we know aces have done Bad things and so we deserve it/don’t get to complain
One of many examples of white people who hate aces+aros talking over PoC and trying to erase us from our communities (+usually when we call that shit out they don’t care. This was actually one of the more cordial responses I’ve gotten despite the lack of apology lol. Also, I have a tag somewhere with several non-black/white ppl who made Rachel Dolezal comparisons to shit on aces/aros). Another example of talking over us here complete with condescendingly lecturing a PoC about racism
People like this saying outright they hate aces
Saying sex ed shouldn’t teach about asexuality
Outright stating they think being ace/aro gives people privilege (because supposedly aces+aros both benefit from conservatives pushing for abstinence)
Outright invalidating the identities of aces (who don’t have the attitude towards sex they think they should have)
Outright calling aces and aros a “plague” and saying aces/aros regardless of other identities all need to be kicked out of the LGBT+ community.
Erasing the identities of people who speak out against anti-ace/aro shit to declare them “straight” or “cishet” …or saying that treatment is what they get for being “traitors to their own community”
Ignoring the boundaries of aces/aros who have them blocked and don’t want to be vagued to make fun of them …
…or even to continue sexualizing them after they have made it very clear that shit freaks them out (cheerfully doing this to a WoC)
Someone saying asexuality does not exist and “encourages slut shaming”
Spamming the ace positivity tag with vile hate (ppl have talked a lot about how this harms and endangers especially mentally ill ppl)
“aces are embarassing“ in the positivity tag
Posting nsfw content in the ace positivity tag and being completely unapologetic, apparently using the reasoning that our identities are inherently nsfw anyway (see the “TMI discourse” aka people sexualizing our identities)
Calling aces and aros a “sexuality fandom” while pretending we’re a group full of people with every privilege imaginable, bored of being accepted by everyone and of having no Actual Problems in our lives. This kind of nasty erasure constantly goes on and is a big tactic in this mess tbh
Wanting aces to be “exterminated”. For good measure putting this in the ace positivity tag
This disgusting vile shit that I don’t even know how to sum up but it includes wishing death on someone
Talking about wanting aces/aros dead after somehow misunderstanding(?) a post that was very clearly not about asexuality or aromanticism
Graphically telling aces to die
Specifically telling ace kids to kill themselves
Did I mention that many people in this mess have wished death on aces and aros and that they often put it in positivity tags. Some of the most messed up shit I’ve seen is missing because I didn’t reblog/respond to it at the time or can’t find it right now
And I know anons don’t count as hard “proof” for anything but have the less graphic one of the death/rape threats I got in my inbox for speaking out against anti-ace/aro shit (still kinda eerily detailed though. Not linking the other one because it is extremely graphic)
And the really sad thing is that these are all just examples that I could find relatively quickly. I also left out posts for various reasons, and tried to focus on just really blatant shit and not anything where you need a ton of context, or something “just” on the level of the many people who’ve invalidated asexuality/aromanticism as orientations (declaring them to only ever “modifiers”)
But yeah, a lot of people here? Hate aces and aros a lot and what’s going on is incredibly harmful and toxic and it needs to stop. This is serious shit

@ Abled neurotypicals
Stop telling neurodivergent and disabled people that they are “not trying their hardest” just because they are not working to your abled neurotypical standards.
Stop demanding neurodivergent/disabled people regularly, constantly push themselves well over their limits in ways that might have consequences for their wellbeing just because you aren’t convinced they are really trying hard enough or working hard enough.
I’d just like to say thank you for the excellent commentary on the Harry Potter and Dudley post. The post upset me deeply, and you said why in far more eloquent a way than I could when I first saw that post this morning.
I’m glad I was able to offer some clarification on it (and also sorry if it was my initial ficlet that contributed to any distress, it was a random tangent thought that came into my head when the gifset went over my dash) and also maybe explain why certain things from the fandom and canon are…upsetting, to read with hindsight.
As a child I didn’t notice anything wrong with the behavior of the adults, it all seemed pretty standard to me, up to a point. Which…yea…now I have realized some things I understand how deeply and pervasively messed up that is.
It’s not that autistic people are against any kind of therapy. What we’re against is “early intervention” that aims to squash away all evidence of autism that will backfire when that tiny child is older.
Teach autistic kids how to be a healthy autistic person with a bag of tricks to cope when their brain and the world clash and they will be a lot happier later in life.
Teaching autistic children to squash their disability to blend in for the comfort of others often causes them to burn out later in life and have even more difficulties then. Helping give autistic children tools to function more effectively *within* their disability instead of fighting against who they are without putting a focus on “making them normal” does much better to help them become well-adjusted autistic adults.
Forcing autistuc people to live purely by allistic rules and blend into allistic society really does cause burnout later in life. It’s not fun and will often involve a sudden increase in symptoms not previously displayed or increase in severity if symptoms. Such as, an autistic person witbout sensory processing issues getting exhausted from “acting normal” all the time, hitting a threshold of stress, and then suddenly experiencing sensory overloads with loud noises.
Oh shit. No.
Shit.
Thank youJust gonna reblog this out of gratitude because I actually did forget…
Fffffffff let me get right on that.
and then reblog for the next forgetful son of a bitch
I’m so great full for everyone that is reblogging this. I totally forgot to take mine
I think that there is some sort of unspoken fairy godparent thing where you see this, realize that you forgot your meds, and rebagel it because if you forgot someone else must have. And in our turn we all take care of each other, even if we don’t know it.
Reminded me I had to go buy some ! Thanks 🙂
18 years ago when I was coming out, y’all made the word “bisexual” so dirty that for years the only word I felt was accessible to me was “queer”, if I had any chance at having a community.
Queer was widely used at that point among LGBT+ people to refer to ourselves and our community, and while you’d look askance at a straight person using that word, it was most definitely acceptable to call another LGBT+ person queer.
And now y’all are telling me “Queer” isn’t an acceptable umbrella term to use and it just feels like another way you’re using subtle language policing to tell me that really the only people you want in your community are gold-star LG folks.
Those of us who like the word queer because it accurately reflects our misfit status are basically being told that this self-identifier is dirty and wrong, this is no longer the “queer community”, and the message yet again is that we don’t really belong.
I get it if someone doesn’t want to be called queer, and I would never call another person queer against their will but holy hell please stop acting like it’s common knowledge that queer can’t be used as an umbrella term for our community when it was for DECADES
“q-slur” is a very new concept, kids.
This is something
that’s completely overlooked, by the same people who fling the word
“ahistorical” at every viewpoint they disagree with. When I first started
participating in any kind of LGBTQ+ stuff online (so, 10 years ago),
“queer” was by far the most common descriptor. It was pretty much
agreed it had been reclaimed enough to be safe (I mean, show me an
active slur that has academic disciplines named after it?) and people
seemed much more keen to explore the ambiguity the term offers,
rather than sticking with predefined categories. By “q-slur”
logic, we should’ve been much less accepting of it back then if we
simultaneously believe that LGBTQ+ rights are advancing over time,
but the opposite is true.So I would say that the current
stigmatization of queer is based on two things: 1) reactionary
essentialism (seeing “queer” as too dangerous for the more
clear-cut categories), and 2) respectability politics. Now by taking away
“queer”, we don’t have any other term that’s both catchy (no
version of the abbreviation is) and broad enough to actually be
inclusive. Gay is not an umbrella term. It always has a default
connotation that’s very specific. It only reminds me of all the time
I wasted on bad gay-only discourse when I was first questioning my
own identity, and for this reason it took ages to arrive at the
conclusion that I’m just attracted to multiple genders and also trans without dysphoria (because the other bullshit I had to
contend with was the truscum narrative of transness). So, gay is not a safe
term for me. It doesn’t describe me and if I used it, it would
actually misgender my own relationship. I’m not doing that for any of
you, sorry.Do you know who the
majority of the people who still use “queer” are? Trans and MGA.
Yet again, we have a political line that privileges cis LG people who are fine with binary categories
over the most routinely erased parts of the community. Of course. This, I imagine, is also
why so many bi/pan and trans/nonbinary people aren’t against aces
being included. Chances are most of us, at least those who are 25+ or so,have experiences like this, with either being actively policed out
or just unable to find the right identifiers for ages because of the
stigma and general ignorance surrounding them. And now you’re
telling us we HAVE TO use gay, which isn’t a functional umbrella
term, because queer suddenly isn’t acceptable based on this new logic?
Do you even hear yourselves?–
“But!” I can already hear the gatekeepers protest, “This all
relies on a bunch of personal anecdotes!”In which case,
buddy, I have bad news for you about the vast majority of all modern
LGBTQ+ history.I first came upon Queer as both an umbrella term and a field of academic study. This was in the early 90s. There were queer studies, queer histories, “queering” of the text, queer theory…
And Queer, more so than other words, felt inclusive of people who, at the time, referred to themselves as “genderqueer” as well as people outside the binary, as well as bisexuals, who couldn’t claim gay or lesbian.
It was, at the time, being reclaimed at a time when all the words were being used as slurs, so there was a real reason to reclaim them.
I’ve problem with using words that people are comfortable using, but not at the cost of erasing parts of our history.
I guess now is the
time we’re hitting New Essentialism and Respectability Politics 2.0
from people who aren’t old enough to remember any of this.Yeah, that’s something a lot of folks in the younger generation don’t get.
When you campaign against words like “queer”, to those of us in the older generations, what it looks like you’re doing is trying to roll the nomenclature back to the bad old days when cisgender gay men were treated as the only “real” members of the community, and everybody else was lumped together as this peripheral pack of weirdos who were expected to be slobberingly grateful to their betters just to be acknowledged at all.
Hell, I clearly recall a time when the leaders of mainstream gay rights activism would routinely castigate even lesbians as parasites and invaders – and be applauded for doing so. It’s difficult to overstate just how deep it went.
And, like, that wasn’t all that long ago – I’m only 33 and I’m old enough to remember that horseshit.

To be honest, given that seemingly nobody in their society bats an eye over the fact that their primary prison consists of vicious torture for even the lightest of sentences, while having direct and widely known proof of wrongful convictions? I’m betting Obliviate is a standard tool in their “therapy” programs.
That…yea that is a horrifying realization I am now coming to.
Hey so uhmn
If you follow any gay girls blogs you may have noticed this ask being copied and pasted a lot. In fact if you search the term “gold star lesbian” and hit recent, youll find an overwhelming amount of asks just like these.
Most of these are on anon, but these urls popped up a few times. I suggest any gay girls block them for their own safety. This is incredibly creepy
The urls are:
@someonelikeme143 and @my-face-shining-brightlyhey i don’t know if anyone remembers but this shit happened a few years ago (or less maybe, i have no concept of time. it was at least well over a year and a half ago) and this same fucking person sent the same copy/pasted ask to a bunch of lesbian blogs. however, if you respond in any way saying no you’re not “gold star” or w/e they send much more disgusting, volatile, and nsfw asks that are typically copy/pasted.
this person operates both off and on anon and has multiple blogs from what i understand and is also – and this is very important – a diehard fucking twerf. do not engage w them, as they quickly turn the conversation sexual and cruel and transmisogynistic.
the last time this happened these asks were typically sent to trans inclusive non-terf lesbian bloggers/positivity blogs to goad them into answering and then berate them for “taking dick” and calling them fake lesbians.
keep an eye out for these asks and PLEASE block immediately and don’t engage. i cant believe this shit is happening again.

this post is from over a year ago and is the exact same message verbatim. whoever this freak is, they’re dedicated
Some people just aren’t worth your time
Block. Just block. And turn off Anon.
