Sai is such an upgrade, a better friend, teamate and a better father than expired Sauce than I’m actually personally insulted whenever people say Ino “settled” for a copy like gtfo with that bullshit.
so are we talking about our headcanons for stuff happening after 699 because
(team 7 edition)
Sasuke wanders, but specifically he goes to hang out in Ame for a while. He learns about the old days of the Akatsuki and sits around very seriously listening to local legends and when he figures out he can control the weather a bit, he stops the rain for them on Sundays. He moves on, in the end, but he’ll return there many times in the future (he likes the quiet, the neon lights, the rain and the memories and how it’s a scarred land always healing)
Sakura moves in with Ino because Reasons and everyone’s pretty sure they’re dating but they also go after other people
honestly polyamory’s the name of the game for the new generation, whether it’s Sakura living with Ino and flirting with Hinata or Naruto being kind-of-married to Gaara but ditching everything else to hang out with Sasuke whenever he wanders back to the village nearly everyone has a few different relationships
Sasuke does eventually acquire a daughter. somewhere. nobody really knows how. He sticks around Konoha for like a year when she’s a baby and then takes off again. he’s the most overprotective dad ever but honestly he has his reasons
kakashi gets therapy. all the therapy. and goes on a road trip with Gai and stops visiting Obito’s grave and definitely does not become hokage.
Sai – well, nobody is exactly sure what Sai does for a while, until Sakura finally asks him outright where he’s vanishing once a week and he’s like ‘um, root? we’re figuring stuff out, don’t mind us’
yamato needs a lot of hospital time. and he does not let the fact that he had to sit in a zetsu-stew for half the war go easily. “Yamato we don’t have the time to -” “Zetsu. Stew. For days.” “fine”
Naruto: I wanna be the student council president. And be respected by everyone in this school!
Sakura: Well, I…
Sasuke, sulking in the corner, his fingers interlocked with each other, both palms facing downward, covering his mouth in deep contemplation: I have myambitions. I shall restore my clan. And there is someone I have sworn to k i l l.
Itachi, in the distance: I went to Disneyland without you one time!
I’ve gotten a bit stuck on the Hokage!Kiba thing (which is up to 32k!) so I thought I’d post another snippet in hopes it motivates me!!
Basically, this is Kiba’s first B-rank.
Kiba breathes out a puff of stifling air and his hand clenches around what’s left of his flak jacket and he needs to move.
Of course Kiba’s first B-rank mission would blow up in his face.
Sora’s scream tears through the air and Kiba presses his face into the dirt. She writhes on the ground, covered in so much blood that Kiba can’t tell where she’s bleeding from. He can’t differentiate between what blood is hers and what isn’t.
Kiba reluctantly peels himself from the ground, ignoring every screaming muscle and the pounding in his head.
They failed this mission.
Kiba freezes as his eyes find Takara’s body. His arm is missing, a deep slice running from just below his left breast to his right hip, Kiba can see sliced, mutilated organs and bile rises in his throat.
Takara’s eyes look up at the sky sightlessly. Dried blood and vomit cover his chin. Sora screams again, her voice tearing through the air with senseless pain and no understanding that she needs to shut up.
Kiba pulls himself upright, catches a whiff of Takara’s bloody and vomit covered corpse and knocks his probably broken leg against a stone and he falls forward again, landing on his hands and knees. Akamaru’s mouth grips his jacket, pulling and growling at him to get up.
Bile burns his throat and Kiba’s shaking hands can only just stop him from falling into his own vomit.
Sora screams again and Kiba clamps his hands over his ears as tears roll down his face.
Kiba can barely stand, there’s three dead Iwa-nin littered around them and it could be a fluke that they can into them, but it could also mean that the bastards expected them. If that’s the case, then they were walking into a suicide mission before they’d even left Konoha.
And Takara is dead. Takara is dead.
Sora won’t stop screaming.
Kiba coughs and slowly pulls himself upright and staggers over to Sora’s form, Akamaru nudging him along. She twitches and sobs, her eyes open but glazed over in delusional pain.
“Shut up,” Kiba hears himself say, but it sounds far away. She groans in response and it’s too loud. They’re in enemy territory. They’re the opposite of safe and she won’t be quiet.
“Stop it,” Kiba hears himself say. “We need to go.” Akamaru is by his side but Sora is going to get them all killed anyway because she’s too loud.
Sora doesn’t react. And Kiba wants to scream, he wants to lay down and never get back up. They failed this mission and they are a long, long way from Konoha.
Kiba looks back at Takara and knows he can’t carry both of them. For a moment he considers leaving Takara there, but a very cold, logical part of brain riots at the idea. Leaving a dead Konoha-nin in in the Land of Grass with three dead Iwa-nin will cause drama Konoha doesn’t need.
Kiba fishes out rope from where it’s sealed in a scroll and drapes Takara over Akamaru’s back, mumbling apologies all the while as dark blood drenches Akamaru’s fur. Kiba ties Takara’s hands together, as well his legs, and ties the remaining bit of rope around Takara and Akamaru’s torso. It’s crude, and still leaves room for slipping but they’re out of options.
They’ll just have to make it work.
Kiba hobbles around the area, almost tripping over the body of an Iwa-nin and picks up all their Konoha issued weaponry.
They failed their first B-rank mission, but Kiba’s not going to leave traces of Konoha literally laying on the ground.
Sora moans again like she doesn’t have any more energy for screaming but Kiba still flinches at the noise.
He can’t see any more weapons, so he walks over to Sora and throws her over his shoulder, feels blood soak his flak jacket and he blinks through sweat dripping into his eyes.
For those of you who don’t believe me for some reason…
he fuckin stabbed himself to kill his opponent
and he knew FULL WELL he’d kill himself in the process
he did it twice (he only got himself the second time because ukon can take a hint, kiba was fucking serious)
like, damn. how many people could do this? (answer: none. ukon says he’s attempted to kill people by entering their bodies before and no one has ever thought of attempting suicide in order to kill him…) friendly reminder that kiba is still a genin at this point)
when will your fave
Me: *takes a deep breath*
Me: i lo-

WE GET IT.
What she says: I’m fine
What she means: Kiba Inuzuka was one of the most thrown aside characters in the Naruto franchise. He was made to be the leader of Team 8 from the start of the Chunnin exams and has a very strong personality which sets him up nicely to be used effectively against the other strong characters, and thus developed fully to even him out more. He would also be a great gateway into using shinobi using animals for combat as well as clans that specialize in using animals as partners in combat but we barely get to see anything about him even when he is shown in combat against Sakon and Ukon, which is probably the most exposure we see of him in the entire manga. What I find to be even more infuriating is that he is arguably a more intense version of Naruto. He is a Naruto-clone. They both are obnoxious and stubborn, as well as irrational but determined to gain respect and attention from others. They both have a short-temper and insist on being the leader of their teams. What’s even worse is that they both dream of being Hokage, which is obviously not going to be fulfilled as it is Naruto’s dream and he is the titular character of the entire story. They both even have animal-like qualities, Kiba’s fangs and Naruto’s whiskers, and can transform to be more like the animal they represent. Kishimoto seemed only to make Kiba not even as a foil or a rival to Naruto, as those are Sasuke’s roles in the manga, but if anything as the “rival” for the NaruHina shipping by creating a very similar character to Naruto but who is closer to Hinata from the beginning. Though this attempt is vain at best because it did not pick up as feverently as NaruHina did, because of Kiba’s very small exposure throughout the manga, and when we do see Kiba he is in a stalemate of development because he is a Naruto-clone and has Naruto’s base personality. Kishimoto seems to not have had an idea of how to develop Kiba other than like he developed Naruto, so he ignored Kiba’s development entirely. This is even more exemplified overall in Akamaru’s story where he notes that Kiba wants to become Hokage and Akamaru has a strong belief that Kiba will become it, though Naruto is already Hokage. Though Akamaru’s view is biased and limited as he is a dog, it does reflect Kiba’s own view as Akamaru is the one who is closest to Kiba. Also, Kiba is constantly set up to be below Naruto, maybe not on purpose, but definitely to stagnate his character development further. He is told to be one of the last of his peers to end up with someone, and by the time that Naruto Gaiden takes place, he does not seem to have a child yet as opposed to almost all of the rest of his peers, which is limiting the further gateways to animal-based shinobi tactics that the next generation seems to be lacking of, as Shino also seems to not have a child either. It’s so strange to me that this happened, as Kiba’s an inherently good-looking person, is a strong shinobi, and has a very outgoing personality, so I would think that he would garner some romantic attention from others sooner than it is shown. Yes, he’s obnoxious but so is Naruto and as I said they’re very similar people. Maybe he’s an example of what Naruto could have been if he took his life in a different path? Is he what would have happened if Naruto didn’t actively chase his dream, as well as Sasuke, and which such determination to become stronger? Kiba didn’t have a driving force such as that to get stronger and develop his character, but Hinata developed further throughout the manga and I think Kiba would have gotten chances as well to develop even with the lack of earth-shaking developments, he should have grown as a person. Especially since he was around Konoha more during the timeskip, he should have more established relationships with others as well, but it does seem like Kiba doesn’t even have that much of a friendship with Hinata anymore either, now that she’s with Naruto. As in Akamaru’s Story, he does see them out in the park but he does not approach her to say hello. I’m just so confused as to why Kishimoto would create this character that had a lot of potential but instead he just basically threw the character out. Other than Shino, I believe that Kiba is one of the most neglected characters in the whole series. At least Shino had his own distinct personality and is inherently a very quiet person, though that doesn’t excuse his neglect either it would make more sense why we hadn’t heard about him as much. But as Kiba is one of the more outgoing shinobi of his peer group, it just strikes me as odd that he wasn’t exposed or developed as much as he could’ve been, as when we see him as an adult he still seems to act very much like he did from the beginning, didn’t seem to garner a lot of attention from others, and in general just seems to be at a stagnant place in the manga’s present timeline, which is a very big waste in my oWn opinion.
